Texas guard Ariel Atkins has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week in women’s basketball.
Atkins averaged 17 points and two rebounds last week in Texas’ double-overtime win over No. 24 Oklahoma and loss at TCU. She went 15-for-17 at the free throw line in the two games for an 88.2 percentage.
Atkins scored 21 points against OU and followed up with 13 points and two steals at TCU. She is shooting a team-high 87.2 percent from the charity stripe for the season.
It marks the second time Atkins has earned the honor this season.
Texas Tech guard Amber Battle was named Big 12 Player of the Week after averaging 26 points and 4 rebounds in a win over West Virginia and a loss to Kansas State.
