What was rumored for a day is now official: Florida has hired Texas defensive line coach Chris Rumph.
The Gators announced the hire on the school’s web site.
Texas issued a one-sentence statement: Defensive line coach Chris Rumph has been hired at the University of Florida.
Rumph spent one season at Texas under Charlie Strong, who will be seeking a second new assistant in addition to tight ends coach. It’s unlikely he would shuffle his defensive staff to fill the void at defensive line, as none of his assistants have previously coached that position.
In three seasons Rumph will have worked at Florida, Texas, and Alabama, three of the sport’s blueblood programs.
Rumph is a dynamic recruiter who gets credit for Texas signing five players in this year’s class, including four-star running back Chris Warren of Rockwall.
Another Rumph recruit, defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin, isn’t happy.
