Rice sweeps double-header against Texas

Posted February 14th, 2015

Rice 5, Texas 2

Why Rice (2-1) won: Texas couldn’t hit freshman starter Ricardo Salinas. Through five innings, the right-hander had allowed just two singles. He got the win, going 7 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.

Why Texas (1-2) lost: The Longhorns came out sluggish, according to coach Augie Garrido, and didn’t score until Tres Barrera’s two-run homer in the sixth.

Key stat: 25. That’s the number of hits for Rice over the two games. Also, Rice hitters have struck out just eight times over three games this weekend..

On deck: at Rice, 1 p.m. Sunday, 1300.
