Texas guard Brooke McCarty was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week. It is McCarty’s first Big 12 weekly accolade.
The 5-4 freshman averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the starting point guard. She went 10-of-19 (.526) from the field, including a 7-of-12 (.583) effort from 3-point range.
McCarty scored a career-high 21 points with six rebounds and four assists in 40 minutes of play at Oklahoma State on Feb. 11.
She has started the last seven games and leads Texas with 31 three-point field goals this season.
It is UT’s sixth Big 12 weekly honor this season, which includes three Big 12 Player of the Week honors and three Freshman of the Week honors.
The Longhorns return home to host Kansas State on Wednesday (7 p.m. Central, Longhorn Network) in the annual Horns for Hope: Shoot for a Cure “pink” game.
