Despite two home runs by Ben Johnson, the Texas Longhorns baseball team fell to the Stanford Cardinal 5-4 in Palo Alto, Calif. late Thursday night. Johnson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, but his heroics weren’t enough to put Texas over the top.

The Longhorns trailed by one run with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, but Taylor Stell popped out to second base to give Stanford the victory.

Johnson’s first home run gave the Longhorns a 2-1 lead in the top of third before Stanford (8-6) answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Cardinal added another run in the fourth to go up 5-2 before Johnson struck again with his second home run of the night, pulling the Longhorns to within two runs in the top of the fifth.

Chad Hollingsworth (1-1) took the loss for Texas as he pitched for five innings, allowing all five of Stanford’s runs on six hits, including a home run apiece to Mikey Diekroeger and Austin Barr. Diekroeger went 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the game, including a double to score Alex Dunlap in the second inning.

C.J Hinojosa doubled to lead off the final inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch to pull the Longhorns (8-5) to within a run.
