The Texas Longhorns baseball team fell for the second straight game against the Stanford Cardinal, 5-3 late Friday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Taylor Stell homered in the second inning to give the Longhorns (8-6) an early 3-0 lead, but it was all the offense Texas could muster.
Chris Viall (1-1) picked up the win for Stanford (9-6), tossing 6 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on six hits. The Cardinal bullpen didn’t allow a hit or walk in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Colton Hock picked up his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Kirby Bellow (0-1) took the loss for Texas in relief of starter Kacy Clemens. Clemens pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Quinn Brodey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Stanford. Brodey singled in the second inning to get the Cardinal on the board and then doubled in the sixth inning to give Stanford the lead for good.
Austin Barr and Jack Klein each had RBI singles for Stanford.
