The Longhorns didn’t have to wait long to learn their NCAA fate on Sunday.
Texas was unveiled as a No. 11 seed and will face No. 6 seed Butler in the Midwest Region of the NCAA tournament. The two teams will meet in Pittsburgh on Thursday. Actual tipoff time will be determined later this evening.
Butler, a member of the Big East conference, is 22-10 this season and 12-6 in league play, finishing second in the standings.
It was thought the Longhorns (20-13) may get shipped to Dayton, Ohio, for the play-in games on Tuesday or Wednesday. But coach Rick Barnes’ club gets to bypass Dayton and go straight to the traditional second-round.
Should Texas advance, the other half of the bracket features a Notre Dame-Northeastern matchup.
The Longhorns are scheduled to meet with reporters after the NCAA selection show.
