Freshman RHP Kyle Johnston to make his first start for Texas
Posted March 30th, 2015
Kyle Johnston, Texas’ closer at one time, is now a starter.
Johnston is slated to start Tuesday’s home game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, becoming the fifth different pitcher to start one of Texas’ six mid-week games.
Johnston, a freshman flame-thrower, is 0-1 with a 3.09 ERA. Struggles with command cost him the closer role, as Johnston has walked nine batters in 11 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.
TAMU-CC (11-12) will counter with RHP Garrett Harris (2-1, 5.95 ERA).
The Islanders are just 2-15 against Texas at UFCU-Disch Falk Field, including a 10-0 setback in February of last season. As of two weeks ago, Corpus-Christi was 10-5 but has since dropped seven of eight games.
