Big-leaguers Huston Street and Drew Stubbs are among 15 former Texas baseball players to have pledged money to create the Texas Baseball Alumni Scholarship endowment.
So far, $383,693 has been raised of the needed $775,000 for the first year to cover the cost of one full scholarship. The endowment will allow Texas to allocate money in other areas of the baseball program.
“We appreciate our former baseball student-athletes stepping up and providing support for generations to come,” Texas men’s athletics director Steve Patterson said in a statement. “This group provides an inspirational example for other student-athletes on how they can continue to make an impact after leaving the Forty Acres. Texas Athletics looks to other sports to do the same as we work to secure the future of Texas Athletics through endowments.”
