Lightning cancels Texas-Texas State baseball game

Posted May 5th, 2015

Persistent lightning caused the cancellation of Tuesday’s baseball game at UFCU Disch-Falk Field between Texas and Texas State.

The game, set originally for 6 p.m., was called at about 7:15 p.m. It was to be Texas’ final home game of the season, though a school official said the game could be rescheduled. The Longhorns are off this weekend and aren’t scheduled to play again until they close the regular season May 16-17 at Baylor.

It behooves Texas (24-24, 9-12) to reschedule the game because by not playing it Ben Johnson’s one-game suspension would linger into the Baylor series, which could have implications on seeding in the Big 12 tournament. Johnson, the team’s top hitter, must sit one game after being ejected in the eighth inning of Sunday’s loss to Texas Tech for arguing balls and strikes.

Texas has beaten Texas State twice this year, 6-4 on March 24 in San Marcos, and 7-3 on April 21 in Austin.
