Everett Golson, who quarterbacked Notre Dame to the 2012 season BCS title game, will transfer and play his final season elsewhere, according to various reports.
Could Texas be his landing spot? Quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson said last month that Texas no longer planned to acquire a transfer quarterback, but left himself some wiggle room: “I’m a humbled guy. It’s a day to day, week to week, month to month process.”
Golson, who lost his job late last season to Malik Zaire, would likely jump to the front of the line at Texas. Making for a delicious storyline, Golson would be the favorite over incumbent Tyrone Swoopes and redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard to start Texas’ season opener in South Bend against Notre Dame.
Last season, Golson threw for 3,445 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He was benched in a Nov. 29 blowout loss to Southern Cal, which marked a fourth straight loss for the Fighting Irish. Golson played, but did not start, in a bowl game win over LSU.
Golson (6 feet, 200 pounds) was suspended all of 2013 for an academic violation.
