Texas tops Baylor to advance to Big 12 baseball championship game
Posted May 23rd, 2015
Texas 4, Baylor 0
Why Texas (29-25) won: It got another superb pitching performance, this time by freshman Connor Mayes, who went all nine innings for Texas’ third complete game of the tournament. Yep, that’s right; through 27 innings Texas has not used a relief pitcher. Amazing.
Why Baylor (23-32) lost: It loaded the bases in the sixth on a single and two four-pitch walks, but Aaron Dodson popped up to third on the first pitch of the at-bat for the final out. The Bears had just two hits on the day.
Key stat: Mayes struck out eight different Baylor batters and had 10 Ks overall.
On deck: vs Oklahoma State/Oklahoma, noon. Sunday, 1300, Fox Sports 1.
