Why Texas (30-27) lost: Starters Ty Culbreth and Connor Mayes were excellent at the Big 12 tournament, each throwing a complete game. However, their success didn’t carry over to the regional. Culbreth started and gave up four runs in three innings. Mayes took over and allowed three more runs in 2 2/3 innings. Combined, they gave up 12 hits, including five for extra bases.

Why Dallas Baptist (44-14) won: Justin Wall. The sophomore left fielder from Fort Worth knocked in six runs, including a three-run home run against Culbreth in the third inning.
