Passed over in the NBA draft, former Texas forward Jonathan Holmes has agreed to play summer ball with the Boston Celtics.
Holmes is expected to join Boston for leagues in Utah (July 6-9) and Las Vegas (July 10-20). The Vegas league is the bigger of the two.
Some mock drafts had Holmes going in the first round of Thursday’s draft, but his name was never called. He had reportedly canceled pre-draft workouts, fueling speculation that he was comfortable with the feedback he had received.
With Boston, Holmes will join the club’s first round selections Terry Rozier and R.J. Hunter, who were chosen with No. 16 and No. 28, respectively. Both are guards.
Holmes’ Texas teammate, power forward Myles Turner, was taken No. 11 overall by the Indiana Pacers.
