Texas has landed a commitment from Jacob Young, a 2016 point guard from Houston Yates.
The 6 feet, 165-pound Young is a four-star prospect and is the nation’s No. 15 point guard, according to 247Sports’ composite ratings. In addition to Texas, which extended an offer this week, Young holds offers from Memphis, Baylor and Duquesne.
Young, the state’s seventh-ranked player, is Texas’ first commit in the 2016 class.
Young’s brother Joseph played at Oregon where he was the Pac-12’s player of the year this past season. Last week, the Indiana Pacers selected Joseph in the second round of the NBA draft.
Michael Young, the father of the two boys, is the third-leading scorer in University of Houston history and is among five players at the school to have his jersey number retired.
