Texas’ softball signing class for 2016 continues to get bigger.
Longhorns head coach Connie Clark announced Tuesday the signing of former University of San Diego pitcher/utility player Paige von Sprecken.
Von Sprecken makes it five incoming players for Texas. Bekah Alcozer (Belton/Belton), Cristina Bardwell (Huffman/Hargravge), Reagan Hathaway (Lenexa, Kan./Oloathe Northwest) and Celina Felix (Montclair, Calif./Montclair/Mt. San Antonio College) are also part of UT’s incoming recruiting class.
“Paige is a competitor and will add depth to our pitching rotation,” Clark said. “She possesses size, strength and a great upside. I can’t wait to get her in the bullpen and work. She can swing the bat as well and provides another power option for our team.”
In her lone year with the University of San Diego, von Sprecken had a comanding presence in the circle, leading USD in wins (21), complete games (18), shutouts (4) and strikeouts (136). She was a second-team All-West Coast Conference selection and was the league’s pitcher of the week on four separate occasions.
