It was a bit of a surprise when the three-day baseball draft came and went without anyone selecting former Texas outfielder Collin Shaw.

But Shaw has not given up the sport just yet.

In six games, the Westlake High product is hitting .300 with the Rockford (Ill.) Aviators out of the independent Frontier League. Shaw has two doubles and has driven in three runs in 20 at-bats.

Shaw has helped West-division leader Rockford to a 29-16 record.

At Texas, Shaw started every game his senior season at right field and hit .243 with 19 doubles. The common belief was that Shaw, an excellent defender, was going to be drafted.
