Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant, the team’s second-leading rusher in 2014, is academically ineligible for the upcoming season and will not play against Texas in the opener.
Irish Illustrated said Bryant will not report to training camp.
Reports from earlier this summer stated Bryant would miss the first four games for a violation of team rules.
Last year as a sophomore, Bryant averaged 5.4 yards per attempt (54 carries, 289 yards) and scored three touchdowns. He was in position to again split carries with Tarean Folston, the team’s top returning rusher with 889 yards.
Texas goes to Notre Dame on Sept. 5.
