Freeman was one of several players from the Tom Penders’ era who attended Shaka Smart’s introductory press conference in April. At the time, Freeman said he was talking to guard Isaiah Taylor and counseling him to stay. Taylor did just that.
Freeman led the Longhorns in scoring in 1996 and 1997, averaging more than 20 points per game each season. He was best known for calling “four down,” which signaled for everyone to get out of the way as Freeman would drive and score.
Freeman is still ranked as the fourth-best scorer in school history, pouring in 1,958 career points from 1994-97.
