Frosh TE Devonaire Clarington status uncertain after NCAA approval
Posted August 14th, 2015
A test score is at the center of a complicated eligibility case involving Texas freshman tight end Devonaire Clarington.
Multiple sources close to the situation said that the ACT is currently investigating the validity of Clarington’s test score, which he said is 26, because it is higher than his other academic scores might suggest.
Sources said Clarington was cleared by the NCAA one month ago, but that Texas is proceeding with caution and will not let him begin practicing until the ACT’s investigation is complete. Clarington, a four-star prospect from Miami, has yet to report to campus.
The NCAA flagged Clarington’s ACT score as being suspicious and turned his case over to a review board to determine its merit.
