Texas relay team breaks school record at Power Five Invitational

The Texas women’s 4 x 400 meter relay team took first place and the Texas men’s 4x 400 relay team broke a school record on Saturday at the Power Five Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama.

Texas teamed up with schools from the Pac-12, ACC and Big Ten in a dual meet against teams from the SEC. The Power Five women’s team beat the SEC teams 85-84, the SEC men’s team won 91-74.

UT’s Morolake Akinosun won the 60 meter dash in 7.26 seconds and helped the Texas women win the 4×400 meter relay.  Akinosun, Ariel Jones, Chrisann Gordon and Courtney Okolo took the 4×400 meter title at 3 minutes 34.36 seconds.


Texas scored a team-high 24 points for the Power Five women’s team. The Texas men’s team scored 25 points for the men’s squad.

Longhorns Chris Irvin, Zack Bilderback, Byron Robinson and AJ Bailey ran the 4×400 relay in 3 minutes 6.36 seconds, just ahead of the school record, but placed second behind a team from LSU. Robinson, Irvin, Bilderback and Senoj-Jay Givans set the previous record of 3 minutes 6.56 seconds at last year’s NCAA championships.

UT’s Ryan Crouser added to the men’s team total with a victory in the shot put at 19.99 meters.
