The Texas softball team closed play at the Rainbow Wahine Classic with a 3-2 win over Hawaii on Saturday night in Honolulu.

The Longhorns (19-6) went 3-2 at the event and had two victories against the Rainbow Wahine and notched a victory over Iowa. Hawaii (16-17) and the Hawkeyes (8-16) won a game apiece against Texas.

UT’s Paige von Sprecken held the Rainbow Wahine to two hits through 4 2/3 innings and improved to 7-1. She gave up two runs to Hawaii, one off a wild pitch and the other when she hit a batter with the bases loaded.

Holly Kern led the Texas offense, going 3 for 3 and drove in a run.

Texas’ Lindsey Stephens gave Texas the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third and Kern added an RBI single in the fourth to put Texas up 2-0.

Hawaii got runners on second and third in the fourth after a couple walks and a groundout and scored when von Sprecken threw a wild pitch.

UT’s Celina Felix gave Texas a two-run edge with a RBI single in the top of the fifth. Hawaii loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning and cut the lead to one when von Sprecken hit a batter. Kristen Clark replaced von Sprecken and got out of the jam when Courtney Hiruko flied out.

Tiarra Davis closed for Texas and had a shaky outing. Sarah Muzik led off the inning with a single and the next at bat, Nicole Lopez reached first on a fielders choice. Keiki Carlos knocked Lopez to second with a single to left field and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Davis stuck out the next batter and, following a walk that loaded the bases, struck out Tayana Mata to get her second save of the season.
