Texas men’s golf team shoots 1 over par in second round of NCAA Championship

The Longhorns moved up to a tie for seventh place after shooting 1 over par in the second round of the NCAA Championship on Saturday at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.

The Longhorns, who entered the second round tied for 12th place after shooting 9 over par on Friday,  trail leader Vanderbilt by seven strokes. The Commodores shot even par on Saturday and hold a two-stroke lead over Southern Cal at 3 over. Arkansas is in third place at 6 over.

Southern Cal’s Justin Suh carded a 3-under 67 and is in the lead at 5 under par. Alabama’s Robby Shelton and San Diego State’s Nahum Mendoza III are a shot behind Suh at 4 under. Shelton shot the low round of the day, a 4-under 66.


UT’s Beau Hossler shot even par for the second straight day and is tied for 15th place. Hossler got to 2 under par after birdies on the 13th and 15th but had a double bogey on the par-3 16th.

Scottie Scheffler shot Texas’ low round after shooting three under on the back nine. He was two over at the turn, then had four birdies and a bogey on the back nine to finish at 1 under. He is tied for 27th place at 1 over. Gavin Hall followed an opening round 75 with a 71 and is at 6 over. Doug Ghim also shot a 71 and is tied for 53rd place at 4 over.
