With his invite to The Opening this week in Oregon, Texas commit Sam Ehlinger can claim he is one of the Top 12 high school quarterbacks in the nation. But can he be one of the nation’s top recruiters as well?

When talking to the media on Wednesday, Ehlinger listed off names of fellow 2017 classmates he’ll work on this week to join him on the 40 Acres.

Here’s what Ehlinger had to say, excerpted from the video below provided by The Oregonian (Portland):

“Baron’s on the team. Baron Browning. And that would be a great pick up. Anthony Hines is another big one. I got to get on my Ohio State boy JK Dobbins…all the top guys in Texas that everyone thinks about…mostly those guys just to get to know them better.”

Browning and Hines are linebackers from Kennedale and Plano respectively. La Grange running back Dobbins is Austin area’s top rated athlete in the state. All three are in the top 8 of the 2017 American-Statesman’s Fabulous 55 list.

A couple other highlights from Ehlinger’s comments include:

On being “slept on:”

“I hope I continue to get slept on, because that gives me more motivation.”

On his relationship with new Texas offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert:

“It’s not really a coaching relationship right now…it’s a relationship that you’d have with one of your friends.”
