Nichelle Prince’s header in the 96th minute gave the 19th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes a 2-1 overtime victory over Texas on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
Texas went ahead in the fourth minute on a header by Alexa Adams and held the lead until Prince tied it with a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Adams has scored nine times in her last 12 shots on goal dating to last season and leads the team with four goals.
Two of the Longhorns’ three losses this season have been against ranked opponents, and the margin of victory in each game was one goal. Texas (3-3) was edged by 12th-ranked California 1-0 last week.
Adams gave Texas the lead 3:22 into the match when Julia Dyche sent a corner kick toward the middle of the penalty box and Morgan Murphy headed it to Adams, who beat goalie Jillian McVicker.
Texas goalie Paige Brown was called for a foul in the 59th minute, and Prince converted the penalty kick.
The Longhorns nearly took the lead in the final minute on a header by Nakia Graham, but her shot bounced off the left post.
Prince got a crossing pass from the left wing at 95:24 and sent in a header from 6 yards out.
