Own goal lifts Texas soccer past Mean Green 1-0

Posted September 16th, 2016

An own goal by North Texas helped the Longhorns edge the Mean Green 1-0 Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The Longhorns (5-3) got a break in the 33rd minute when UT’s Morgan Murphy hit a quick shot from the top of the penalty box and Tori Phillips attempted to clear the ball, but it deflected off her foot towards the goal. North Texas goalie Brooke Bradley collided with UT’s Katie Glenn while attempting to save the ball, and it rolled into the back of the net.

Bradley had one save in the first half and was replaced with Miranda Schoening in the second half. The Longhorns out-shot the Mean Green (5-3-1) 11-9 and held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.

Longhorn Alexa Adams attempted three shots and nearly gave Texas a two-goal lead in the 86th minute, but her chip shot from nine yards out lifted over the goal.

Texas goalie Paige Brown had two saves in her second career shutout.
