Texas freshmen forwards Cyera Hintzen and Tecora Turner notched their first collegiate goals and helped Texas edge the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 2-1 Sunday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Longhorns (6-3-0) dealt the Gauchos (8-1) their first loss of the season and have won three straight since dropping two in a row to ranked opponents earlier this month.
Hintzen gave Texas the lead just under ten minutes into the match. She received a long pass and hit a shot from the right side from 25 yard out past goalie Brittney Rogers. Rogers entered the match with a .15 goals against average, having allowed just one goal this season.
Amanda Ball tied it two minutes into the second half when she got a pass from Sydney Magnin from the left wing and sent a shot from the middle of the box past Texas goalie Paige Brown. It was Ball’s eighth goal this season.
Turner took back the lead in the 65th minute when Alexa Adams led her with a pass and she got through three defenders and beat Rogers from ten yards out. Adams has scored at least one point in 12 of the Longhorns’ last 16 games.
