Former Horns Cortijo, Boyette in WNBA playoffs

Boyette (Chicago) and Cortijo (Atlanta) will face off in second-round playoff game Sunday.

Two former University of Texas women’s basketball players will face one another on Sunday in the second round of the WNBA Playoffs, following Wednesday’s single-elimination opening round.

Point guard Carla Cortijo (2005-09) and the sixth-seeded Atlanta Dream defeated the seventh-seeded Seattle Storm 94-85 on Wednesday evening in Atlanta. Rookie post Imani Boyette (2012-16) and the fourth-seeded Chicago Sky earned a first-round bye.

On Tuesday Boyette was named to the WNBA’s All-Rookie Team.

The second-round matchup between the Chicago Sky and the Atlanta Dream will take place on Sunday, September 25 at 12 p.m. CT in Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. That matchup will be televised by ESPN2. The winner will advance to a best-of-five semifinal.
