Posted September 23rd, 2016

The Texas soccer team opened Big 12 play with a 1-1 draw against Baylor Friday night in Waco.

UT’s Kaite Glenn scored her third goal of the season and gave the Longhorns the lead just over a minute into the second half. Baylor hit the equalizer in the 53rd minute and the match went into overtime.

Texas’ Alexa Adams had a chance to take the lead in the 93rd minute, but her shot from 13 yards out was saved by goalie Sara Martinson. The Bears nearly scored in the 100th minute when Ashley York’s attempt hit off Texas goalie Paige Brown’s hands and towards the middle of the goal, but Brown was able to save the loose ball. Neither team managed a shot in the second overtime period.

With the tie, the Longhorns (6-3-1) extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

Following a scoreless first half, Glenn received a Baylor turnover in the 47th minute and hit a shot from 30 yards out that glanced off Martinson’s fingertips and into the right side of the net.

The Bears (7-3-1) began to pressure the Texas defense and evened the score in the 53rd minute when Caitlin Schwartz got a header in the middle of the penalty box and beat Brown. Brown had three saves.
