Longhorns Granic, Wagland advance to singles finals at Rice Invitational

Texas freshman Petra Granic and junior Dani Wagland notched three-set victories in the semifinals of the Rice Invitational to advance to their respective singles finals Saturday in Houston.

Granic dropped the first set against Alabama’s Maddie Pothoff 3-6, then won a tiebreaker 7-6 (6) and blanked Pothoff 6-0 to move on to the 1B singles final.

Wagland advanced to the 2A singles final with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Alabama’s Juliana Valero.


Wagland and Granic also picked up a win in the 1A doubles consolation semifinal, beating Auburn’s Allie Michaud and Taylor Russo 6-3.
