Scottie Scheffler cards second straight 69 at World Amateur Team Championship

Texas junior Scottie Scheffler shot a 3-under 69 in the third round of the World Amateur Team Championship as the United States dropped to third place in the team standings Friday in Mexico.

The United States trails leader Australia by 17 strokes heading into the final round. Australia’s Cameron Davis shot a 68 in the third round and is in the lead at 14 under. The Australians other two players round out the top six. Curtis Luck is in second place at 12 under and Harrison Endycott is in sixth place at 8 under.

Scheffler had six birdies in the third round and is tied for 25th place at 4 under par after shooting a 73 in the first round and a 69 in the second round. Team USA’s Maverick McNealy shot a 71 and is tied for 17th place and Brad Dalke is tied with Scheffler at 4 under after shooting a 72.
