Oklahoma’s Rasha Roberts evened the match with less than five minutes remaining in regulation and Lizzie Luallin scored the game winner with less than 30 seconds left in the first overtime period to give the Sooners a 2-1 victory over Texas Sunday in Norman, Oklahoma.
Oklahoma (9-2-1, 2-0-1) extended its winning streak to seven games and dealt the Longhorns (6-4-1, 0-1-1) their first conference loss.
Texas freshman Cyera Hinzten gave Texas the lead in the ninth minute with some help from Oklahoma defender Madeline Brem. Hintzen received a long pass from Kayra Dollas, and while the two were battling for possession, Brem tried to clear the ball and her shot bounced off Hinzten’s right foot and into the net.
The Sooners attempted seven shots in the first half and out-shot Texas 11-5 in the second half. Texas goalie Paige Brown had a shutout going until the 86th minute when Roberts took a quick shot from 25 yards out that deflected off Brown’s fingertips and into the right edge of the net. Brown made two saves on back-to-back shots in the closing minutes and finished with five saves.
With 33 seconds left in the first overtime period, Luallin got a pass from the left side into the top of the penalty box and beat Brown with 29 seconds remaining to clinch the win.
