The legendary Barry Switzer of Oklahoma joined me and colleague Cedric Golden for our weekly “On Second Thought” podcast, which will go online at mid-day Thursday, and had some entertaining and informed opinions on a variety of topics, including the best Longhorn player he ever faced and Houston’s viability as a new Big 12 member.
Switzer, who won three national champions at OU in 16 seasons as head coach, said he considers Hall of Fame running Earl Campbell as “probably the best player of all levels” that he ever faced as a college coach. “He was devastating in high school,” Switzer said.
Switzer also defended Bob Stoops’ record and said he was worried that adding Houston to the Big 12 would give the Cougars way too much credibility.
“I wouldn’t let ’em in,” Switzer told us. “I can’t tell you how they’d vote, but if I had a chance to vote, I’d say hell no.”
