Texas women’s golf tied for second place at Jim West Invitational

No. 22 Texas shot 7 under par through two rounds at the Jim West Invitational Sunday at Carlton Woods Golf Club north of Houston and is tied for second place.

The Longhorns trail Florida State by eight strokes heading into the final round. Texas shot a 288 in the first round and followed with the low round of the day, a 7-under 281. The Seminoles matched Texas’ 281 in the second round and are in the lead at 15 under. Kent State is tied with Texas at 7 under and Texas A&M is in fourth place at 2 under.

Florida State’s Matilda Castren carded a 3-under 69 and closed with a 65 to take the lead at 10 under. She holds a three-stroke lead over Texas A&M’s Thanya Pattamakijsakul and Oklahoma’s Juilienne Soo.


Texas freshman Greta Volker shot even par in the first round and followed with a 5-under 67. Volker had six birdies and one bogey in the second round and is in a three-way tie for fourth place at 5 under.

Texas freshman Emilee Hoffman carded a 71 and a 73 and is tied for 16th place at even par.

Longhorns Julia Beck and Dominique Galloway shot 2 over par Sunday and are tied for 29th place.
