Olympic champion Michelle Carter was among five former Longhorns to be inducted into the Texas Women’s Athletics Hall of Honor Friday at the Erwin Center.
Also among a strong group of athletes who were inducted: basketball player Edna Campbell, swimmer Andrea Hayes, tennis player Lucie Ludvigova Schmidhauser and track and field standout Terri Turner.
Carter was a seven-time All-American in the shot put and won the Big 12 championship five times during her tenure with the Longhorns (2004-07).
Campbell (1989-91) helped Jody Conradt’s Longhorn go a combined 48-14 during her two years at UT. The shooting guard was named Most Valuable Player of the Southwest Conference Tournament and was SWC newcomer of the year.
Hayes (1986-90) was a 16-time All-American and a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 1988. The Longhorns earned NCAA team titles during three of the four years Hayes swam at Texas.
Ludvigova Schmidhauser (1993-95) was a two-time All-American, 1994 SWC Player of the Year and was a catalyst for the 1995 team that won the NCAA championship.
Turner (1983-86) set the school record in the triple jump in 1986, a mark that still stands. At Texas, Turner was a two-time individual champion and 12-time All-American.
