UT Women’s Athletics Hall of Honor inducts five

Michelle Carter earned gold in Rio shot put

Olympic champion Michelle Carter was among five former Longhorns to be inducted into the Texas Women’s Athletics Hall of Honor Friday at the Erwin Center.

Also among a strong group of athletes who were inducted: basketball player Edna Campbell, swimmer Andrea Hayes, tennis player Lucie Ludvigova Schmidhauser and track and field standout Terri Turner.

Carter was a seven-time All-American in the shot put and won the Big 12 championship five times during her tenure with the Longhorns (2004-07).

Campbell (1989-91) helped Jody Conradt’s Longhorn go a combined 48-14 during her two years at UT. The shooting guard was named Most Valuable Player of the Southwest Conference Tournament and was SWC newcomer of the year.

Hayes (1986-90) was a 16-time All-American and a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 1988. The Longhorns earned NCAA team titles during three of the four years Hayes swam at Texas.

Ludvigova Schmidhauser (1993-95) was a two-time All-American, 1994 SWC Player of the Year and was a catalyst for the 1995 team that won the NCAA championship.

Turner (1983-86) set the school record in the triple jump in 1986, a mark that still stands. At Texas, Turner was a two-time individual champion and 12-time All-American.
