Longhorns win six singles matches at ITA Texas Regional Championships

The Texas men’s tennis team had six singles players advance to the round of 32 and four doubles teams reached the round of 16 on the opening day of the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Friday in Fort Worth.

The Longhorns won six of seven singles matches in straight sets in the round of 64 and won all four doubles matches in the round of 32.

Texas sophomore John Mee overwhelmed Texas A&M’s Kevin Lam 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore Harrison Scott routed Mario Muniesa of UT Arlington 6-1, 6-0. UT’s Leonardo Telles defeated Texas Tech’s Nikolas Moceanu 6-1, 6-2 and will play top seed Arthur Rinderknech of Texas A&M on Saturday. Texas freshmen Christian Sigsgaard and Yuya Ito notched victories in the round of 64 and sophomore Rodrigo Banzer moved on to the next round with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Abilene Christian’s Henry Adams.
