Texas swimming teams open season with victories in Indiana

The Texas women’s swim team won 13 of 15 events and the Texas men’s squad opened its season with seven victories in a dual meet against Florida and Indiana on Friday in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Texas women defeated the Gators 186-90 and Indiana 170-106. The Texas men topped Florida 185-96 and fell to the Hoosiers 149-132. The teams swam in a long-course format and will compete in a short-course contest on Saturday.

Texas senior Madisyn Cox and sophomore Joanna Evans led the Horns with two wins apiece. Cox took the 200 meter breaststroke in 2 minutes 31.23 seconds and the 200 freestyle in 2:00.41. Evans won the 400 and 800 meter freestyle races.

Texas’ Jack Conger swept the butterfly races, winning the 100 in 53.43 seconds and the 200 in 2:01.08. Texas sophomore Townley Haas claimed the 200 freestyle title in 1:51.29 and helped the Texas men win the 400 freestyle relay.
