Three Longhorns advance at ITA Texas Regional Championship

Petra Granic, Dani Wagland and Neda Koprcina moved on to the singles round of 16 and Wagland and Granic advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw at the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Friday in Waco.

Wagland defeated Houston’s Sveva Mazzari in the singles draw 6-4, 6-0 and will play Texas Tech’s Gabriela Talaba in the round of 16 on Saturday. Granic topped Rice’s Priya Niezgoda  6-3, 6-4 and will face Baylor’s second-seeded Blair Shankle on Saturday. Wagland and Granic won two doubles matches to advance to the quarterfinals. They edged North Texas’ Laura Arciniegas and Haruka Sasaki 8-7, then blanked Baylor’s Rhiann Newborn and Karina Traxler 8-0. They will play Texas A&M’s Rutuja Bhosale and Rachel Pierson in the quarterfinals.

Koprcina defeated Rice’s Alison Ho in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 and will play Texas Tech’s Sarah Dvorak on Saturday.
