Texas women’s golf team shoots 4 under par in opening round in Las Vegas

Texas senior Julia Beck carded a 3-under-par 69 as the 14th-ranked Longhorns shot a 4-under 284 in the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate on Sunday.

Baylor tied a school record with a 15-under 273 and holds a five-stroke lead over Idaho. Texas had three players shoot under par and is tied for seventh place.

Beck birdied three of the final four holes to finish at 3 under. She trails leaders Maria Vesga of Baylor and UC-Riverside’s Hannah Facchini by three strokes.


Texas freshmen Emilee Hoffman and Greta Volker each carded rounds under par.

Hoffman had three birdies and a double-bogey on the front nine, and birdied the 10th hole to finish tied for 15th place at 2 under. Volker was 3 under par through nine holes, but had three bogeys and a birdie on the back nine and finished with a 71. UT’s Haley Mills and Sophia Schubert shot 2 over in the first round and are tied for 60th.
