The Big 12 conference named Texas forward Cyera Hintzen Big 12 freshman of the year on Monday.
Hintzen became the fourth Texas soccer player to earn the award and is the first Longhorn to win the honor since 2005.
The Garland native was also selected to the All-Big 12 second team and Big12 all-freshman team.
She missed the first five games of the season with an injury, but managed to lead the team in shots and shots on goal. She scored her first collegiate goal in UT’s 2-1 victory over UC-Santa Barbara and scored her second goal of the season in Texas’ 2-1 overtime loss to Oklahoma. Hintzen played in 13 matches with 12 starts and tallied 1,005 minutes played in 2016.
