Brooke McCarty scored 13 points and Texas held off a late Tennessee rally to beat the Lady Vols 72-67 Sunday at the Erwin Center.

Texas improved to 3-4. Tennessee is 4-4.

Texas got off the blocks quickly, zooming to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes. Center Kelsey Lang scored the game’s first two points, a pair of three throws, and Texas never trailed in the half.

The Longhorns led at the break 37-32 as Lang contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds. Tennessee mounted a late comeback in the second quarter to cut a 15-point deficit to five points at the break.

Lady Vol forward Jaime Nared scored 14 points to lead all scorers in the half.

On a negative note, Texas forward Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau went down with an apparent knee injury early in the second half. She was helped to the locker room by Longhorn staff members and did not return to the game.

Texas will have home games against UT Rio Grande on Thursday and UTSA on Saturday. Tennessee returns home for a Wednesday game against Appalachian State.
