Karen Aston won for the 100th time during coaching tenure at Texas but she was more pleased with a few other numbers.
For starters, her team has won nine straight games. The Longhorns have also won five straight to open the Big 12.
Junior point guard Brooke McCartry scored 16 points as No. 16 Texas routed Oklahoma State 66-35 Tuesday night at the Erwin Center.
As for Aston, her record at Texas is 100-50. Before the game, she was honored for winning the 200th overall career victory in Saturday’s 83-54 win over TCU.
Oklahoma State’s offensive production was worthy of the record books — for all the wrong reasons. The Cowgirls shot 18.6 percent from the field (11 for 59).
The Cowgirls scored a season-low 8 points in the first quarter. The followed that up with a season-low 4 points in the second quarter.
OSU’s total of 12 points in the half ties a UT record for fewest points scored by an opponent in a half. Last season Texas allowed just 12 points in the first half during a victory over Northwestern State.
Their field goal percentage of 13.3 percent from the field (5 for 31) gave OSU no hope of winning. Although Texas struggled from the field, too, hitting 27.8 percent from the field (10 for 36), the Longhorns had a 31-12 lead at the break.
Texas has won four straight over over Oklahoma State. This marked OSU’s lowest point total of the season. The previous low was in Saturday’s 86-50 loss to No. 2 Baylor.
Texas (11-4, 5-0) resumes its Big 12 schedule at p.m. Saturday at West Virginia.
