The Texas Longhorns softball team split two games Friday at the Texas Invitational as they defeated Louisiana Tech 6-5 before falling to South Carolina 9-4 later in the day at McCombs Field.
Tiarra Davis fell to 0-2 as South Carolina belted 11 hits in the game. Nickie Blue improved to 3-0 for the Gamecocks.
Davis allowed six runs, three unearned, on six hits through 3 2/3 innings. She struck out two and walked six.
Blue gave up just one hit in relief as she pitched 4 1/3 innings.
Alyssa VanDerveer doubled in the third to give the Gamecocks (6-0) a 3-0 lead. She finished the game 2 for 2 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and a run scored.
Texas (5-3) scored four runs to take a lead in the third, but South Carolina added six runs over the next two innings to regain control.
Mickenzi Krpec went 2 for 3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored for Texas. Reagan Hathaway, Randel Leahy and Bekah Alcozer all drove in runs for Texas.
Earlier on Friday, the Longhorns scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Louisiana Tech. Leahy doubled to scored Celina Felix to lift the Longhorns to victory. Felix’s RBI double after Mickenzi Krpec drew a walk had tied the game earlier in the inning.
Alcozer hit her first home run for Texas as she went 1 for 3. Teammate Devon Tunning hit her fourth double of the season. Stephanie Wong and Reagan Hathaway each hit triples for UT.
Paige von Sprecken (2-0) picked up her second win as she pitched two perfect innings in relief.
The Longhorns will next take on Indiana Saturday at 10 a.m. before facing Louisiana Tech at approximately 3:30 p.m. to close out their games as hosts of the Texas Invitational.
