The Longhorns made it three straight wins at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., when they defeated Bethune-Cookman 9-1 Friday afternoon.
Bekah Alcozer went 3 for 4 with her third home run of the season and four runs batted in to lead Texas. She hit a grand slam against Missouri on Thursday.
The Longhorns (10-3) had 12 hits and scored four runs in the fourth before adding five more in the seventh.
Stephanie Wong was 2 for 3 while Reagan Hathaway went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Jade Gortarez was 1 for 3 with an RBI while Randel Leahy added two RBIs for Texas.
Paige von Sprecken (3-0) picked up the win as she allowed one unearned run on four hits through six innings. Sabrina Anguiano (0-2) suffered the loss for Bethune-Cookman (1-12).
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings, but Alcozer got Texas going in the fourth with a three-run homer. Mickenzi Krpec’s double in the previous at bat put two runners in scoring position. She finished the day 1 for 1 with a run scored.
Leahy knocked another run in to make it 4-0 after four innings.
A throwing error by Bethune-Cookman’s catcher with the bases loaded allowed Texas to clear the bases and pad their lead in the seventh.
Texas next has two contests on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic. They face Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. before taking on Arizona St. at 4:30 p.m.
