Update (3:10 p.m.): Baker Mayfield deleted his tweet to Keondre Coburn. You can see the screen shot and text below.
Just because Baker Mayfield played his last Red River Rivalry doesn’t mean he is going to watch from the sidelines in silence.
The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner chimed in on social media Wednesday, responding to Texas signee Keondre Coburn’s all-caps signing day promise to “BEAT OU.” Mayfield took exception to the 4-star defensive tackle from Spring Westfield promising a win before he’s played in the rivalry.
I’m so happy to finally be a longhorn baby this has been the hardest process ever but it’s over and my next journey is in Austin and with my boys in this Revolution Class AND I PROMISE WE WILL BEAT OU and the rest of them🤘🏾🐂 pic.twitter.com/5Il1vSAmpB

“This is what we call being naive,” Mayfield tweeted. “Kid has no idea what it’s like stepping into the Cotton Bowl. So here’s how it works … The team north of the Red River doesn’t flinch. But it’s okay, you’ll see for yourself, wish you the best.”
Yeah, Mayfield is done playing college football, but he’s not letting go anytime soon. Especially not when it comes to the Red River Rivalry.
