Behind Kalani Brown, Lady Bears took a 43-35 lead at halftime

For the second time this season, Texas had no answer for Baylor guard Kristi Wallace.

The Lady Bear senior scored 23 points to lead No. 3 Baylor to a 93-87 victory over No. 6 Texas Monday night at the Erwin Center.

Texas is 22-5 overall, 13-3  in the Big 12. Baylor is 26-1, 16-0.


This marked BU’s 17th victory over Texas in the last 18 games.

Brooke McCarty was sensational in defeat, finishing with career-highs in points (32 points) and three-pointers made (7). Ariel Atkins scored 15.

Baylor clinched the conference championship with the victory. Texas will finish in second place in the Big 12.

Texas had a seven-game winning streak snapped.

Baylor freshman guard Alexis Morris hit a short jumper at the halftime buzzer to extend BU’S lead to 43-35 at the break.

Baylor, the nation’s No. 1 rebounding team, had a 26-16 advantage in the first half over Texas, the nation’s No. 2 rebounding team. BU finished with a 42-27 lead for the game.

The Lady Bears beat the Longhorns 81-56 last month in Waco. In that game Wallace scored 27 points.

Texas has two more games to complete the regular season — Saturday at Iowa State and a home encounter against Oklahoma next Tuesday.

The Big 12 Tournament will be March 2-5 at Chesapeake Arena in Oklahoma City.
