Texas seniors Brooke McCarty, Ariel Atkins gain national AP recognition

Four-year teammates helped Texas win 108 games in their careers

Texas seniors Brooke McCarty and Ariel Atkins have made the 2018 Associated Press All-America team’s honorable mention list.

The announcement on Monday comes just three days after the Longhorns were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. That loss to UCLA did not dampen their four-year careers at the university.

Here is what the Longhorn seniors accomplished in four years:

  • 108 wins overall, the most in a four-year period since the Horns’ won 117 games between the 1986-87 and 1989-90 seasons.
  • 54 conference wins, Texas’ best four-year stretch as a member of the Big 12 and the program’s most since winning 56 Southwest Conference games between the 1988-89 and 1991-92 seasons.
  • 63 wins at the Erwin Center, the most home wins ever for the Longhorns over a four-year span.

Megan Gustafson, Iowa, 6-3, junior, 25.6 ppg, 12.7 rpg.

Arike Ogunbowale, Notre Dame, 5-8, junior, 20.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.8 apg.
