Tennessee guard Meme Jackson scored 33 points to power the ninth-ranked Lady Vols to an 88-82 victory over No. 12 Texas Sunday at the Erwin Center.

It was a career-high for Jackson, who complemented her day with four three-point shots. As a team, the Lady Vols hit 55.6 percent of their treys (10-18). For the season they were hitting 31 percent entering the game.

Texas (7-2) received a season high 21 points from freshman Audrey Warren. Danni Williams had 14 points for the Longhorns and Destiny Littleton 13.

A three-pointer by Williams with 3:15 to play sliced Tennessee’s lead to 74-73. The Horns would get no closer.

Jackson would ice the game with a pair of free throws with 21.6 seconds to play to give the Lady Vols an 85-80 lead.

Tennessee (8-0) improved its series over Texas to 25-15.

Texas, which led by as many as 11 points early, had no defense for Jackson, who scored 20 points in the first half to help give the Lady Vols a 40-35 lead at the break.

Texas and Tennessee were knotted at 31-all after Olamide Aborowa hit a pair of free throws with 2:09 left in the second quarter.

This was the first game of the season for Texas junior Joyner Holmes, who had ankle surgery in October. She scored two points in 11 minutes.

Tennessee, though, hit three consecutive three-pointers, two by Jackson, in a 60-second span to take control.

Texas will take a week off before returning to the court on Sunday against Stetson. Game time is 1 p.m. Sunday at the Erwin Center.
